Traditional Wooden Gates TPS can supply and fit new gates to your specification, or alternatively automate your existing ones. Shown below are just a small selction of the designs available in a more traditional, open style, from the architypal 'farm gate' to individual designs. Location can also influence the style to chose, for example where a site is exposed to strong winds, open or slatted designs are more suitable than close boarded. Our experienced engineers can advise you and, with over 15 years experience and a reputation for outstanding customer service, you can be sure your gate automation is in the best possible hands.

Lea Gates
A beautiful gate which perfectly compliments its surroundings. Supplied and fitted by TPS this is an underground automation with access via a remote handset.

As a single leaf gate, 3 metres wide in a slightly exposed position, it needs the high-quality automation fitted as standard by TPS and is also equipped with a maglock for enhanced protection and stability.

Woodside gates
This is an automation of a customer's existing gates. In this case, one gate has to open 90 degrees and the other 180 degrees - something that the customer had been told couldn't be done! The system uses underground auomation with access via remote handset.

The site is exposed to high winds, hence the choice of an open slatted hardwood design. Pedestrian access is via the small matching gate to the left.
Intercom Entry Your gate automation can incorporate the latest technology in access control. Here there is a keypad with an intercom link into the house so that visitors can request entry. This can also be combined with a cctv image (not illustrated). The keypads may be free standing as here or incorporated into the gate pillars or a wall.

Gates can also be controlled by a ground loop system (activated automatically by the approach of a vehicle fitted with a corresponding activator), key fobs or swipe cards or even number plate recognition.

Hardwood or Softwood?

Wooden gates are of either hardwood or softwood construction, with softwood being, on average, 50% cheaper. Both types require treating regularly, both to protect them and keep them looking at their best but in general, hardwood gates should require less maintenance and will have a longer life. Softwood gates can be prone to warp or twist due to the effects of weathering and usage and for that reason we prefer to fit them with a metal frame to increase rigidity and lifespan. However, in addition to being cheaper, softwood gates do offer ecological advantages which customers may prefer.

In order to keep your gates looking their best at all times, we offer a gate staining option as part of our annual service.
Sliding or Opening?

Virtually all types of gate can be offered with an opening or a sliding mechanism. Sliding gates are generally more secure as they have a fixed housing at both ends and are ideal where gates cannot open into a sloping driveway. They are also better for windy sites.

Sliding Gates are normally mounted on a rail which supports its weight along the entire length of its run and can thefefore span quite wide openings. They have to be mounted on a level surface and the guide rail must be kept clear of debris. Some horse owners prefer not to have the bottom rail.

Sliding or Opening?
In those circumstances where a bottom rail is either not suitable, or specifically not requested, we can install a cantilever sliding gate. This is effectively suspended over the entrance and therefore needs no rail below it. The basic principle uses an additional section of gate to partly counterbalance the section that spans the roadway. Cantilevers need less groundwork, are quieter in operation and can be used on uneven ground. However they require more space at the side of the gate to accommodate the extra length and are less suitable for very wide openings.
High-Quality Components
At TPS, we can advise on all aspects of your gate automation, including the most suitable type of gate for your site, and the way it opens. We only use the highest quality components, designed to give you reliability and trouble-free operation for many years and all our automations are only fitted by our own team of highly-skilled engineers.
